Packets are
mailed to
families on a monthly basis. Parents set aside approximately one
hour per week to teach their children from the easy-to-use
weekly Home Lessons. The family learns together, enabling parents
to draw on common understandings and to incorporate
them into teachable moments that arise in the course of day-to-day
family life.
While lessons are geared for
children in grades K-6, many families have found ways to include
younger and older siblings in the weekly family sessions. Many
parents have reported that the tremendous blessing that has come from
Family Formation is that they are
learning their faith for the very first time.
Family Formation is based on the three-year liturgical calendar, and
lesson topics follow the Sunday Scripture readings. Celebrating
the liturgical seasons draws families into the rhythm of the Church
Year. Through a variety of
teaching methods—games, activities, booklets, audio tapes, etc.—the
tenets of the faith are covered in the lessons. A number of
supplemental materials are also available
to assist parents in their role as the
primary educators of their children in the faith.
