Why Family Formation?

Many pastors and catechists have come to the conclusion that the typical CCD model of catechesis is simply not effective.  In searching for alternatives, they are frustrated and disheartened by the lack of good, solid Catholic teaching materials and curriculum that are available to use in their efforts to teach the Faith.  They have discovered that parents are often floundering in their efforts to live out and pass on the faith to their children, and that they too are in need of sound Catholic teaching.

Family Formation offers a fresh, new approach to catechesis—it is family-based, has an adult education component at its core, is founded on the truth and teachings of the Catholic Church, and strengthens families to become the domestic churches our Holy Father has called them to be.  This unique, challenging, and creative curriculum is designed to make living the faith a way of life and a life-long learning adventure.

Since parents have given children their life, they are bound by the most serious obligation to educate their offspring and therefore must be recognized as the primary and principal educators.
Gravissimum Educationis, 3

Hence, parents must be acknowledged as the first and foremost educators of their children. Their role as educators is so decisive that scarcely anything can compensate for their failure in it.
